Two equations:
x^2 / (1+x^2) and rx-s where r>0 and s>=0
Is there a way to find out in which cases they intersect 1,2, or 3 times in terms of r and s without dealing with a nasty cubic equation?

meaning... you have to do the nasty...

at least you can plot the two curves and from then make an educated guess of the intersection, hopefully if the value is rational. d:
