Mitt Romney, running as an social conservative, has stated that he'd like to stop pornography from coming up on kids' computers, and also reduce violence and sex on television. Presumably, since he's running for political office, he plans to accomplish this by increasing government regulation of internet and television content.

Do you agree with the social conservatives that the government should do this?

this is a complex issue

software, operating system companies, and Internet Service Providers should work harder to prevent pornography from reaching children, but the US government cannot seriously expect to have control over the Internet. The only thing that can control this is parents and responsible computer use

media-wise... I would like to see some regulation, some seriousness in the news and some cleaning up of some disgusting shows on-air.... but I'm sure the US government would not be able to rally support for it

Heck NO! No more government in my personal business! I have a system that allows me to block any & all pornography on my computer & it is turned on! I don't have children at home anymore, but I do have grandchildren that come & get on the computer. As for TV, the parents should monitor what their children watch or block certain programs that they feel are not suitable for children. If they want to regulate something on the Internet & TV, try regulating commercials, there are far too many of them & they are, at times, more embarrassing than some programs!

Reducing the violence and sex on television can be done via the rating system. This is no worse in fact even far better than Tipper Gores burning of books and censorship. I would rather have that then the plan of the liberals to do away with the 1st, 2nd, and 13th amendment.

Any governmental control of the Internet or any type of media for any purpose is the government's attempt to control free speech. The stated intentions are good at first then later it is used to squash speech that speaks against those in power.

As for protecting children, that is up to the parents to make sure they children are doing the right thing. If you see something offensive on TV or the Internet DON"T WATCH IT.
Make the ratings fall and the offensive stuff will go away.
It is your responsiblity to control what you feed your mind and soul and no one else's.

Ya, I agree with Vice-Fuhrer Cheney that the Internet should be turned off all over der Welt and replaced with a horse-and-buggy in every haus. And television (except the Fox 'News' Channel) should be padlocked and all journalists arrested and stoned to death in front of the White Folks House.

I believe that it should be the responsibility of the parents and not more government control.

There are ways now to control TV programming and what a child can and can't see on the Internet. It's time to hold the parents accountable for their own children.

There's no way the internet or tv should be controlled by the government. I understand that kids shouldn't be exposed to porn and violence, but that is the parent's job, not the government. Allowing the government to have that much control over things like the internet and tv is frightening. Imagine the power.

I don't like the idea of more government regulations on tv and the internet. What's the matter with these republicans? They are supposed to abhor big government.

Mitt Romney is not representative of Conservatism...any controls should be aimed at Virus producers and keeping
predators away from children...if there is collateral impact..it must be discussed
