The fact that his name is so similar to the notorious *Osama* Bin Laden has struck debate on whether or not that will affect voters on a subconscious (or conscious) level.

Actually, I do. It's a shame, but I think many people vote based on a feeling and not research.

I think it will definately hurt him. Mostly in the general election if he gets the Dem nomination, not as much in the primaries. Unfortunately, often people don't vote so much for the candidate they like the best, but the one they are least worried about. Just a bit of doubt about his name and the fact that he attended a muslim school in Indonesia when he was a young boy will make enough people vote against him. As we have seen in the last two elections, it only takes a few dopes to vote because of some silly issue to change an election.

The only people making an issue of his name (or his middle name, Hussein) are the far right mouthbreathers who aren't going to vote for a Democrat anyway. The mainstream media and the majority of voters simply don't care. If they did, Obama wouldn't enjoy the high profile he does today.

Fox News and Ann Coulter got together to try their hardest to make you think that:

But they aren't the only ones:
If you look at Newsweek this month there is a picture of Obama on the cover... but right above that, there is the words "terrors new face" - the words are part of another article but it is bold and red and right next to Obama's face... THAT is propaganda.

But I have already added him to my top 6 on MySpace and will continue to support him until the candidates are chosen.
I hope he shares a ticket with Hillary.

It's only the extreme right-wing cons that are making a front page news about this....but as for drawing the democrats and SMART independent votes, I think his name will do a very little damage-if not at all.

There certainly seem to be a fair share of idiots who corrolate the two. And some of them will be voting. And we complain about the people we elect to office. Jeez.

Sadly, many people have raised that exact point.

The fact that our society is still so prejudiced that just the sound of someone's name is reason to affect a person's vote -- that's just shameful for our claim to being the land of the free.

I think yes it will,,,,he is a very intellegent man and very young, maybe next election...I think he is still a rookie politician, and hasn't had enough experience in office to be president. Lately he seems to be contradicting himself...The troops should be yanked out...the troops shouldn't be pulled out, and he recently voted against more funds for our troops???what is happening?
