No it is not. When after my Mother passed away ,although they had a will,in order for my father to sell their home he had to pay $1,000. to a lawyer to probate the will.

No. Because probate is the process of what happens to your estate after you die -- and you cannot do-it-yourself if you're dead.

You can create your own will, and create your own trusts, and handle all the other paperwork before you die. But the probate process itself is handled by the court after you die.
