Okay, her belly is 'puffed out' because she's not 'holding herself' stiffer ... yes, even newborns do this. It's 'softer' than normal, because she's not 'tensing' her muscles as much ... and she's smiling because of 'gas' in her tummy when you poke her. As to her 'laughing' when she's asleep, before she laughs recognizably when she's awake ... it's her 'dreams' and the subconscious mind is 'older' than the conscious mind, and it's helping 'work things out' ... and she must be a happy baby, or she wouldn't be laughing when she dreams.

the laughing is actually more likely to happen first in their sleep! I used to watch my son for hours sleeping because that's when I would catch a lot of his first facial expressions. I think the puffy belly is normal, it's so super cute! CONGRATS on your daughter and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww that sounds precious!! Sure sleep smiles come before real ones so why not sleep laughs before real ones. I am picturing a baby pillsbury dough boy and I can't think of anything in the world cuter. Thanks for that image: )

Cuuuuute!!
My neice (16months) is always puffing out her belly while she sleeps too. Not sure why but it seems normal, lots of babies look like they have big bellies.
