Yes. The bible can not always be taken verb batem. Remember when it says in the Bible that our lifetime is like the blink of an eye for God, so one day (as in God made the earth in seven days), could actually be thousands or millions of years. Also, many advances in scientific knowledge, and history, and such actually prove the bible correct. Such as things that we read about in the bible and believed b/c the Bible said it was so, later get proved. For instance, In Genesis we read that God punished the serpant by taking away it's legs and making it crawl on it's belly. Archeologists have proven that the snake used to have legs, by finding fossils. Many historical battles are proven to have happened like the bible said. We read about the wall of Jericho as kids and believe it, even though it sounds impossible, then scientists find out that in actuality, a huge wall could indeed, scientifically, be taken down in the way described in the Bible. The big bang, and evolution, could indeed be what was meant when the Bible says, God said, let there be light, ect.. and that he made man from the dust. Evolution says the very early origins of man are something that indeed could have been in dust. I also want to point out that the way revelations describes the end of the world, or Armageddon, could easily be the discription of either nuclear holocaust or a meteor hitting the earth.

Even up to about 40 years ago, there was another candidate theory for the creation of the Universe, Fred Hoyle’s Steady State theory, in which there was NO BEGINNING at all! He posited the idea that creation was occurring all the time, particle by particle in the depths of space, and that the Universe was infinitely old. Eventually, this theory lost favour with respect to the Big Bang theory, but it was a thoroughly scientific battle. Hubble’s proof that the Universe was expanding allowed scientists to imagine how things would have looked in the past, and thus it became obvious that the Universe was all one infinitely dense piece some (we calculate today) some 13 billion years ago. The Steady State Theory is the one which would be Creation denying, by definition, as it hypothesised that the Universe is infinitely old. In comparison, the Big Bang theory supposes that the Universe DID have a beginning. Of course, God could have created the Universe using any mechanism He wanted. If he chose to have a singularity blow up in the first place, how does anything in that contradict Scripture?
Btw, a strange little point. It was Hoyle himself who coined the term “Big Bang”, in a lecture he gave, to ridicule the rival to his own theory. The name stuck and was soon used by proponents as well as detractors of the theory. (Hoyle had quite a sense of humour and was a maverick in his own right. He also wrote one of the best science fiction stories ever “The Black Cloud”. The fact that he missed out on the Nobel Prize is a disgrace. He made absolutely priceless discoveries on Nucleosynthesis – the way elements are formed in the Sun’s core, and championed the idea that spores of living matter infected the Earth early on, and still do today, an idea which is still bearing fruit today)

Have you ever heard the phrase, 'God said "let there be light" and BANG! it happened'? This is a very widely held viewpoint, and if you think about it, there's one thing the Big Bang Theory does not explain:
According to the the theory, the univers started as one solid, ultradense mass packed into a tiny space. Then, something caused it to explode with enough energy to send everything hurling out through space, where it eventually coalesced into stars, which after billions more years spawned planets from their leftover material. I have never yet seen any solid answer to the question of what made it explode. It couldn't do it on its own; that's middle-school science class. There had to be some external force involved that triggered it.
Why not God?

No. It's contrary to God's methodology and His Word for one. But as far as the Big Bang Theory, it's fundamentaly an impossibility by the laws of physics, although God Himself can operate outside of the laws of physics. That being said, however, look at some facts from science...
1. THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT declares that every effect requires a competent cause and the effect cannot be greater than its cause. Nothing, for instance, cannot be the cause of something as postulated by Big Bang advocates.
2. The First Law of Thermo-dynamics declares that the matter and energy of the universe is constant. This means that the processes of science (physics, chemistry, etc.) are non-creative and non-destructive and cannot explain their own existence. These processes can neither increase nor decrease the matter and energy content of the universe. We observe the vast effect of matter and energy in our universe but no competent cause for it. This law demands an Uncaused First Cause not bound by the laws of science to explain the origin of matter and energy unless, of course, the universe is eternal and did not need a cause as claimed by the evolutionists, atheists and the non-Bible-based religions of the world.
3. The Second Law of Thermodynamics disputes the point that the universe may be eternal or self-existent or that order and complexity of natural systems increased via macro-evolution.
This law declares that every energy transformation (applying the brakes on your car, for example) will result in a loss of some energy in the form of heat. This heat radiates out into space to be lost forever though not destroyed in compliance with the First Law. This means that the universe is running down like a spring-wound clock It is becoming less ordered and complex and eventually will reach a state of equilibrium when all of the stars turn dark and when all energy in the universe will be at the same low level. The universe will have suffered a heat death. This law demonstrates that the universe is degenerating downward, becoming less orderly and not evolving upward as claimed by the evolutionists.
The Second Law clearly shows that time’s arrow points downward, not upward as evolutionists claim. Both cannot be true.
Equilibrium has not arrived, so the universe is not dead and cannot be eternal. It must have had a beginning. Since it had a beginning and could not cause itself according to the First Law, a transcending metaphysical process must have caused it.
4. The Law of Angular Momentum declares that radial motion as (produced in an exploding bomb or the so-called Big Bang) explosion cannot change into orbital or circular motion or condense into lumps in space without an outside force. What is the outside force that gave us condensing, spinning planets and revolving galaxies? Physics and chemistry have no answer. There's more, but I think Yahoo may want me to keep this answer short :-) Read my blog for more information.

If God decides to create the Universe in a specific way, then who are we to stop him.
If God decides to plant hints that the Universe is a bit over 13 billion years old and gives us the intelligence to discover and interpret His hints, then why should we go around contradicting Him?
The scientist who proposed that the Universe was created in a Big Bang (although the name only came about a century later) was a Christian priest.

Yes, it is possible many people do believe this.
I do not want to get religious (and I have no intention to attack any belief) but if you look at it through a religious lens, Christianity sees the the world being created in seven days and Islam sees the world as being created in an instant. I just wanted to offer those religious views.

Even a greater mystery: With God's omnipotence and omnipresence indeed all things are possible. Maybe then the Universe is just God's Great Experiment and God is kicking back and watching all the events randomly unfolding. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

Since nobody can explain what started the big bang, or what was there before it, or what the end result of it will be, nobody could possibly discount a creator.
In fact, with our lack of understanding, it would be unscientific to discount a creator, as much as it is unscientific to say there definitely is a creator.

No, because according to science. The big bang occurred billions of years ago. According to the bible all of existence is only about five thousand years old.
