The meaning of life is way too long to discuss but it's what you make it.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

There isn't just one meaning of life. Why we are born, then live life and then die. In that case we live life due to fate. There isn't an actual meaning to why we live. Some people say God (they're wrong) but the I think the meaning of life is that "if you work hard, you try hard, and you live hard then you shall have a good life. If you don't then expect a life of hardship." Its such a religious question really but I think if you have to really say what is the reality of life and the meaning of it then its to be born paying taxes and you are already in debt. You meet someone unnattractive and have too many kids for yourself to support and end up working without health insurance in a demeening job taht treats you like crap until the day you die while you spend all your free time complaining about the government and the society when you didn't even bother to vote. Thats reality. Thats life.

Interesting question. Thousands of people asked the same question before your birth, but they did not manage to find an acceptable and perfect answer.
Whether we accept that life beginned with the first microscopic animals\plants or we believe that GOD created this realm, we must clear that life is... well it is a bit confusig thing. It exist, but why? It is theorised that life was born accidentally. And this accident was trying to protect itself to creatures beginned to change, develop and conquer other races. This is what we call EVOLUTION.
Life is for life itself. The keyword here is SURVIVAL. We live to survive aslong aswe can. Survival has many forms.
1. The survival of the person. (our body)
2. The survival of the race. (sexuality)
3. The survival of a group or community. (society rules)
3. The survival of human spirit and culture. (fine arts, culture)
An other opinion claims that we are here to find a reason to stay here. That means that we seek our own path. Some say that we are only here to find the ultimate evolutionary way to ascend, to leve this plane of existence and continue our lives on an other plane as pure energy. An other viewpoint claims that weare here to seek knowledge and understanding above all. Religious doctrines claimthat we are here to please an entity called GOD or to find our own peace, ascend (e.g. reach Nirvana).
Why are we here? I think we are here to think over the questions like this and find our own peace and salvation in this world, or another.

A question, much like the Rubik's cube, to occupy the minds of the morons until the day they die or read their way out of caring about the answer. Stop thinking about it and live it, experience it... have experience, NOT meaning. Stop flipping the damn cube back and forth and take a walk in the park or beat your wife or kids, or drink, or drive too fast- do something to confirm you're alive and not just thinking about crap!

Logically, real meaning to our lives requires a Creator. Only if we assume the existence of God can we have real meaning or purpose.
You can find a use for your life just like a cow could find many uses for a car, e.g. use it as a back scratcher. But the purpose of the car is known to the maker of the car. When answerers say " be nice to people", "help each other to survive", "growth", "reproduction", etc., they are just advising different things that make them feel good; there is no reality behind any of it unless God exists.
But if God exists, then we ought to seek God to find purpose and meaning and forget about inventing things that just make us feel good.

First one has to understand the actual purpose of human life. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. Only one fourth of the souls come to the material world, and the rest are enjoying blissful loving eternal relationships in the spiritula kingdom, with our Maker named above. We came here out of curiosity like a foolish child who wants to touch fire though his good father warns him that it will be painful. So we are like that foolish child. God made this world so we could act out our free will. Without free will their is no love. God never makes us love Him. This world is for those who want to try to be the creator and enjoyer. When we have exhausted all of our desires after many lifetimes and are tired of this place we begin to question our existence and then as we become sincere in our search for our true purpose and relationship to God, then He begins revealing Himself to us.(like He is this very moment) Through someone who knows the process. When we are very serious He reveals the path back home and if we take it up we will be successful in attaining our true identity and at the end of life think of God and return Home. The meaning of life is to realize our eternal relationship with our Creator and offer all we have in His service with love and devotion. (Bhakti Yoga)or Krishna Consciousness.or God consciousness.or sanatan dharma (our eternal occupation) For info go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita as it is BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada tells all.
