I should clarify. I have worked in health care for almost 10 years, and I know that our system is not perfect, but I have a difficult time believing that raising our taxes even more is the answer. People think it's free. It's NOT. Where do you think the money for that comes from? George Bush's wallet???....No. And it doesn't make a difference if we have a universal system or not, there are corrupt people in every country...the rich will always be able to pay their way to better treatment. And I know many people that have lived in countries that have this system in place that agree with me, based on their experiences...many of my patients included...
That is my opinion...it's just that so many people think the opposite that I almost feel like I'm missing/misunderstanding something. And btw - PAs and NPs are just as if not MORE competent than MDs.

It isn't an idea where I live. We have universal health care and it works pretty good. There are problems, as with anything, but everyone has the same access to health services.

Compared the health care I had in the US, my Canadian coverage is vastly superior. We don't have any life time limits and poor/students don't have to live with easily treatable conditions, like they do in the US. We also don't rip our old people off. Medicare in the US charges the elderly for services ($100's a month) and Part D has a pay-out limit. In Canada, we simply don't do that. I might have to wait a week to see my doctor, like anywhere else, but I can go to a walk-in clinic or ER if I need immediate care. If someone has a non life threatening problem that needs surgery, they might have to wait a month or two. Big deal. Let the sick go first. I'm not the sort to shove people who need care now out of my way because I think I'm the most important person in the world.

yes
I have seen frst hand just how well it can work. I lived in EU and my yearly was 500 euro...I never waited more then a few days to see my DR not a PA!! I saw a physical therapist 3 times a week for 12E and he worked on me only!!
There are positives for our system but the drawback is rationed high cost health care for some. It would lower costs if we implemented a similar system to EU. Remember Britain is not part of that system!
I have seen it work so I see just how hollow the arguments of the people opposing it really are.

They might not if they knew the whole story. My family comes from Canada and I know for a fact it's NOT as good as it sounds -- at all. and, look at the TAXES they pay!

I think the better solution would bring down the costs of both the drug industry costs and the hospital charges. Why in the world does it cost $10 for 2 tylenol when you're in the hospital?

I could go on and on..... but WHY!??

Yes I think it`s a very good idea for several reasons and we could fund it easily if we would Take Care of Our Own 1st and not send all our money overseas. Why should our elderly have to worry about this after working all their lives? Also I`m sick of Welfare coverage being better than mine, emergency rooms for a sore throat?????, free aspirin and stool softner??? The list goes on and on.......

Absolutely! Why should Americans have the WORST health care of all industrialized countries? Sure, we have the best technology but access is the worst. If you are very wealthy you're ok, but most of us are not that wealthy!

I do. I've been uninsured for 4 years and have paid thousands of dollars for surgery/healthcare.

The US is one of the few rich industrial nations that doesn't. (ie - there are millions and millions of people who do)
