Killing another human being is a choice that some make. I have no reason to kill anyone. Calling it a human quality eradicates any sense of autonomy or control that we do have over our physical actions or behaviours. Every person who has killed someone also had the choice to walk away from the situation. Each person had the ability to decide that they would seek a peaceful solution to a situation rather than a violent one.
But hey, what do I know? It's genetics, were murderers. After all, killing can be found in most species. Punishing a killer for killing would be like killing a tiger for being a tiger.
I believe you have the choice to kill others, or the choice to take a very different action and not kill them.

Murder occurs in many species. It is not a human-specific trait.

Murder is not prevalent in all species. The only other species which kills for fun or sport is the common house cat.

Murder is a choice. People choose to murder out of lust, hatred and so forth. Then there are people that kill accidentally or choose not to but have to in order to defend themselves or their family.
Animals kill out of nature. For the want of food or the desire to defend their territory.
Rampant, no.

Well, what would you define as "murder"? If a lion catches, kills, and eats a giraffe/zebra/animal is that murder? It essentially is killing another similar to it.

other species are into it too. i dont remember the book but it was about certain primate species that apparently killed their own kind for reasons that had nothing to do with survival.
