To feel complete. I want a girl or a brother for my son to play with.

Actually, as a Christian, it never occurred to me that my having children would please God. There are several passages in the NT that suggest children, all family members, are an impediment to serving God. I didn't feel exactly incomplete either, but neither my DH or I could imagine having an adult life without children. He was the first man I ever saw play with a baby that didn't already have kids--he was a born father. It was kind of an adventure we undertook together in our marriage.

Because we were Christian Left, we had to do a lot of planning for how to raise our children to be that way. We thought a lot about God in raising them, but not in having them.

Besides, if you don't have children, you can't complain about them not visiting you in the nursing home.

I don't believe in God and if I did not feel "whole" I certainly would seek help with my self-esteem rather than have a baby while there is something wrong with my own self image.

I had a baby because myself and my partner both wanted one, that biological drive to keep the species going.

It depends on the woman - the decision to have a child is intensely personal and for most, doesn't hinge on any one 'reason' in particular. More often, I think, it's just a natural desire for a woman of a certain age to have children.

I think they have them because it is natural, I personally wouldn't have a baby to please anyone but the baby's parents (and maybe my other daughter who will want a brother or sister)

i didnt have my daughter just b/c i wanted to feel complete.

me and my husband believe that you should have more than one child though.

"do not waste seed"

but, theirs a difference between having kids and knowing you can afford and handle all of them and having to many kids and them not being taken care of properly.
