If you guys hate on barry bonds, then you guys hate 90% of all MLB players. It has been said that 90% of players take a banned substance in baseball, JUST LIKE IT HAS BEEN SAID BONDS TOOK STEROIDS. You still need hand eye coordination to hit the ball, and bond's eye is the best ever. Also, "greenies" were around in aaron's time, so who knows if aaron popped a greeny. There werent any tests back then. Look at Roger Clemens. Jose Canseco said Roger Clemens took steroids, but no one is saying anything about him. Jose Canseco has said nothing about barry bonds, but still people hate him. Even Nolan Ryan cheated, but no one hates him either. Using spit on spitches to make them more effective, is just as bad as taking steroids. But no one says anything. Also, Babe Ruth, drank alcohol, a banned substance by mlb during his time. And Babe Ruth never played against black and latino players. Parks were also smaller, and few pitchers were great. So, stop hatin on barry bonds.

It's never-ending, man. Don't waste your time. Dummies are born everyday, and then those dummies have children and the cycle continues. That's why we have so many dummies today.

And frankly the word "cheating" is taken out of it's true meaning when people use it. Cheating entails breaking rules. Back in the day greenies and red juice weren't even against the rules, just like at the time current players were supposedly taking steroids, et cetera, they weren't against the rules. Now they are against the rules and people who get caught breaking these rules are "cheaters"! There is no doubt in my mind that Barry took something, whether steroids or HGH. I believe it was just HGH though. But that's besides the point. I don't think he has tainted the game because the game was tainted long before he was even born. Looking for new things to enhance god-given ability and hard work has always been a goal of all athletes, whether it be GNC or Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative or whatever the equivalent was 50-100 years ago!

But like I said trying to explain that to people who have pure hate in their blood is a waste of time. Logic doesn't enter their mind because they are not rational people.

Let me just tackle this part:
" Also, Babe Ruth, drank alcohol, a banned substance by mlb during his time. And Babe Ruth never played against black and latino players. Parks were also smaller, and few pitchers were great."

1) Alcohol was not banned by MLB. Also, it generally won't enhance performance.
2) African-American players, unless they were "passing" were indeed banned. That's not Ruth's fault any more than it's Bonds fault than under 10% of MLB players today are African-American.
3) Ruth played against Latinos and Native Americans.
4) Some pitchers in Ruth's day could legally use spitters, shine balls, and the like.
5) On the whole, parks were MUCH bigger. If you don't know that, you really know so little about baseball history as to consider not writing nonsense.
6) Last note on parks--fans regularly wore white shirts if they sat in center field. This meant that seeing the ball was very difficult. That area is now usually empty to give a better backdrop for hitters.

Oh, come on bbfan, you like it and you know it. If you didn't want to talk about it or receive posters' answers, you would move on to another topic and stop beating this one to death.
But it's obvious Balco Barry is the only topic you can think of. It gives you a chance to vent on other players. Had Ryan threw spitters as you suggest, every sportswriter in the country would have been all over that story like they were on Gaylord Perry. Do your homework, dude.
As far as Roger Clemens and Jose Canseco, go for it. I agree.
And always trying to knock Babe Ruth. Do your best. The Babe will remain the greatest long after Bonds retires.
And, by the way, the Babe didn't play against blacks and Latinos... why are you discriminating. He also didn't play against Australians, Icelanders, Pygmies, New Zealanders, and a whole host of others.
But, as they say in books, "Dats sho' biz!"

" It has been said that 90% of players take a banned substance in baseball "

Barry Bonds is the only player that ever took a banned substance. Ok, now that is has been said that " Barry Bonds is the only player that ever took a banned substance." you can go around spouting a different load on garbage. In other words, your argument is silly.

" bond's eye is the best ever. "

Uh, no that would be Ted Williams. Higher batting average higher slugging percentage, and better American.

He enhanced his body with Human Growth Hormones because he was jealous of all the press Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire were getting when they both broke Roger Maris' record. He knew he was better then those guy and that if he took them those records would be his. Ken Griffey Jr. said this. 90% of players did not take steroids, a lot of them did but it is still no excuse. I am not taking this high moral stand on the Bonds issue, he did steroids and thats that. History will always remember. He is still a great player, but if you don't get it by now kid you will never get it. The record books are tainted, the record should have an asterick because the playing field is not even.

Parks smaller back in the early 1900's? No. Death Valley in Yankee stadium was about 430 feet not 399. Same thing for the foul line. At the Polo Grounds only 2 people in the history of the stadium(about 55 years) ever hit the ball out of dead center. In the old Cleveland Stadium no one ever hit the ball out of dead center. You can't say that about any ballpark today. It's not 90% it's more like 30 %. Buy the book game of shadows, it changed my whole opinion on Bonds.

Nope, it's fun to bury Bonds. So, Babe Ruth drank, big deal. Did it help him hit home runs? Did it help him take his career to another level at age 37, like steroids did with Barry?

Was it Ruth's fault that he didn't play against Black and Latino players? Also, if you actually read about Ruth's life, he was very popular in the African-American community. What does that have to do with Bonds cheating?

I read " Juiced" by Jose Canseco, and he never comes out and accuses Clemens of using steroids, although he says it's possible.

Also, where did you read where "90% of baseball players use steroids"? Where did you read that Nolan Ryan cheated? Where does it say that Nolan Ryan spit on pitches? I'd like to see you back those statements up.

Few pitchers were great in the past? Yes, they were, and also batters did not wear helmets and could not wear body armor like Barry (which is why he can lean over the plate with those massive elbow pads), and not worry about getting injured.

It's possible that Aaron took "greenies", but again, most, if not all players took those for 50 years, including Bonds. So, that would not give Aaron an advantage over Bonds.

Your statements are so full of garbage that you make no sense. You are just throwing random crap out there about people just to defend Bonds. Bonds is not just disliked because he took steroids, he is disliked because he took steroids and is on the verge of breaking the greatest record in sports, in addition to being a sorry excuse for a human being.

And Granderson, thank you so much for your correction, now I can sleep. But I'd still like to see figures that say that 90% of players take banned substances. I do agree with you though that greenies are for energy, and do not enhance performance.

Canseco is an IDIOT! His head is messed up from the ball hitting off his head! Why do you think he wrote the stupid book! He has problems! I'm a Met fan so don't get me wrong I HATE Roger Clemens! Canseco didn't need to say Bonds took steroids, NOBODIES Head grow so much in TWO years. The Spit Ball Was Grandfathered in! Before it was Gaylord Perry's Main pitch it was not banned! Alcohol is and was not banned! And Ruth did it on hot dogs! ''And Babe Ruth never played against black and latino players. Parks were also smaller, and few pitchers were great.'' Most 300 game winners were from 1975 and back! Not all Black's and Latino's are good, just look at Roger Cedeno! PARKS WERE SMALLER????? Do you know your baseball history???!!! Polo grounds 500 feet to CF!

Like someone said, he's the only one breaking the most prestigious record in baseball. Couple that with the fact that he's just not a very likable person and that he "allegedly" lied to a grand jury and I think that's where most of the anti-Bonds sentiment comes from. No one denies that he would have been a hall of famer anyway. He is a great player. A great player who made himself even greater by using performance enhancing drugs. He's a cheater, a liar, and an asshole about to break a record held by one of the most honorable men to ever play the game.

When asked if he would donate any record-breaking memorabilia to the Hall of Fame Bonds replied:

"I take care of me"

I think that just about says it all

Also while it's true that ballparks used to be shorter down the lines, they were way deeper to center field, left-center and, right-center. Some were over 500 feet to center. Also the mound was higher back then which gave pitchers an advantage.

And Jeffrey he didn't say 90% use steroids he said 90% use banned substances, namely "greenies" (amphetamines), which do not enhance a player's ability they just give them more energy.

I was kid when Aaron hit 715. My friends & I were HUGE baseball fans. We played pickup games & little league games from morning until dark all day every day in the summer. Although we were white kids in the Chicago suburbs every one of us was a Hank Aaron fan, we looked foward to him breaking the most prestiguos record in sports & celebrated when he did. Barry Bonds has failed in his opportunity to be respected nationwide by fans & the media. Although Bonds may hold the record soon, real baseball fans will still consider Henry Aaron the HR king.
