William Seward (as did most of Lincoln's cabinet) completely underestimated Lincoln and thought he was a lightweight.

It is c Sewards was the front runner for the nomination.He was better known than Lincoln and when he became Lincoln's sec of state he thought he could dominate Lincoln.He soon found out Licoln was brilliant anf became one of Lincoln's best friends.
