The most bizarre is what I've witnessed in myself. I have another personality. No, this isn't a joke. Her name is Fred. She absolutely hates me. She thinks I'm weak. She drinks, smokes and swears like a man, but she's all woman. When I first discovered her, I was in the background aware of what she was doing, but I wasn't in control. In more recent years, when she's taken over, it's like I black out. It's only after the fact do I know what she's done. Friends of mine who know about Fred have told me when she's taken over. Thankfully, I haven't heard from her in several years. I hope she's gone for good, but I think she'll always be a part of me.

MPD. Multiple Personality Disorder. I honestly thought that it was a put on until I actually had a very dear friend who had several personalities and pardon me for saying so my dear but it scared the hell out of me. The one that freaked me out the most was the one who was a little girl. . . . . I mean her whole "person" would change. . . . .voice and everything. This lady was my mother's best friend since the 8th grade and she was physically, mentally and sexually abused by her father and other family members. Her three kids, my brother and myself grew up together and she was like a second mom to me but as she got older her disease became worse and worse and it was really very frightening. I feel very bad for anyone who has this or loves someone who does because there is very little that can be done about it.

If family member includes myself, then your answer would be the nearly five year long depression I experienced. Bizarre doesn't describe it. Imagine wanting to die... being obsessed with it. Suicide attempts. No, it has nothing to do with being selfish... quite the opposite, in fact. Not being able to sleep. Not wanting to do the things you loved to do. Willing to do ANYTHING to escape the absolute misery. Worrying about EVERYTHING and yet knowing that the likelihood of those events is extremely remote. Bizarre? I'll let you decide.

I worked on a psychiatric unit for 33 years. The most bizarre was a young girl who was getting her doctorate at USC. She would go into fugue states and get the strength of 10 men. Her breath smelled like metal and she broke my nose. When she came out of it, she apologized to me. The doctors were completely stumped as to what caused the entire episode. She signed herself out of the hospital and we never heard from her again. None of my relatives have any diagnosable mental illness. Doesnt mean they arent off balance-they just havent been diagnosed.

I've known two people who are schizophrenic. Schizophrenia has to be the most bizarre mental disorder. Their paranoia is based on threats that are so real to them, yet it's all upstairs.
My cousin & my aunt's boyfriend also have Tourette's syndrome, but they're both on medication that keep symptoms completely at bay.

My girlfriend has something called synesthesia. To her, words, numbers and letters have colors and personalities. It's not a disorder in the sense of being detrimental in any way, but it's pretty bizarre.

My friend has a pathological fear of running out of toilet paper. Every time he goes to the shop he buys more toilet paper. He gets his toilet paper in the biggets packs he can find. You go to his house and his cupboards are full of toilet paper. You go into a shop to get something and he goes "Can you get me some more toilet paper?" Pretty soon he's gonna need to move to a bigger house, to accomodate all the toilet paper. Once I got him a 30 pack of toilet paper for Christmas. He said it was a very thoughtful gift.
