I think you should start in the New Testament, since it sounds like you are new at this, with Matthew. After you read it, then go back and read from Genesis. As for what to read everyday, continue from what you were reading the day before. There are lots of good books that can help you with reading the bible everyday. If you go into a Mardel store, or visit their website, and just ask, they can hook you up with some really great stuff. You could also consider purchasing the One Year Bible. It's a bible with a reading plan to help you read it in a year.

The four Gospels beginning to end. Then the rest of the New Testament and some study to find out which parts of the Old Testament are referred to in the New Testament and read those. Most general reading of the Old Testament is the Psalms and of course Genesis. If you do all that, you will know your way around better and can choose what you need. There is no formula though this is what many Christians do.

Open your copy of the Bible at the first book, which is called "Genesis", and at the first verse. It matters not whether you use the Catholic Douay version, or the Jewish leeser version, or the Protestant versions, either the King James or the American Revised. They all translate the same opening Hebrew words of the original Bible, B'reshith'bara' Elohim', and they all read the same way: "In the beginning God created." These inspired words put God first. So I think that would be a good place to start.

At the beginning my dear. You can't come into a middle of a movie and then try to sort out who is who. The beginning is always the place to start and it is such an awesome beginning. Some of it you may not fully understand at first but, I assure you once you get to the end, all will become clear. Once you are done then email me so we can discuss what you learned. Don't forget to boomark your questions, if you have any that is. I hope I was some help.

Starting with basic information about the Bible is very helpful... when & by whom it was written, and in which languages originally, it's history of survival despite many viscious attempts to eradicate it... Plus, understanding how things are written in the Bible... The fact that some portions are obviously symbolic, whereas others are very literal, and, how to tell which are which, when it isn't so obvious... Listed are several good Scriptural sources to start with:

It all depends on the reader...if you can read straight through then I suggest start at the beginning. However, if you're a bit more of a 'skipper'; start with Revelations, proverbs or the Song of Solomon.

Another good thing is to just pick it up and see where you're drawn that day...or to validate other peoples claims on particular passages, etc.

You could also try comparing different versions --- they're not all the same you know.

I have always enjoyed the New Testament. The key to reading it though is perseverance. If this doesn't help ask your religious leader, or failing that just pray.
