Counting the 80's, I'd have to say it's Hakeem Olajuwon. As a young player during the mid-80's, Hakeem was a phenomenal athlete with amazing skills. He had countless moves inside the paint, a decent perimeter game and an uncanny knack for blocking shots. As he matured during the 90's, he won an MVP and finally led Houston to back-to-back titles, taking rivals D-Rob and Shaq to school with his "Dream Shake". And Olajuwon did all these without much funfare and in a dignified manner, just like Tim Duncan today.

I say Hakeem because I watched the guy play and he was like Jordan at the center position. He also won a ring with less then Shaq did which should count for something. Shaq was more powerful and dominant but Hakeem could shoot very well for a big man which makes all the difference. Both players could have led teams to the finals with little help but in the 4th quarter Shaq needed Kobe and Wade do to the hack a Shaq thing. Shaq could have been the best if he worked harder at his free throws and stayed in shape. Shaq was a monster as a rookie which is the last time I remember him not being chubby.

1. Hakeem Olajuwon (2-championship rings, the man with a thousand low-post moves)
2. Shaquille O'Neil (4-championship rings, but he got better supporting cast compared to The Dream)
3. Kareem Abdul Jabbar (5-rings during the 80's but he is not the main man no more, its the MagicMan era)
4. Moses Malone (1- ring plus 2-Final appearance)
5. Patrick Ewing (he just lose to a better center during the 1994 Finals)
I don't consider Duncan coz he's playing the Power Forward position eventhough he is a center thru and thru.
David Robinson is a softie, he was totally dominated by the Dream during the 1995 Play-off even he was then the League MVP. He won 2-championship but during the Duncan era. Without Tim, I don't think this over-rated Robinson won a ring or even lead his team to Finals.

Yes. Hakeem is the best ever. Good to see someone else acknowledge it.
I think I'd put Alonzo Mourning in the last spot, maybe ahead of Ewing
