depending on position depends on what muscle group should be your focus. As a linemen or linebacker squats and leg presses are excellent.

As a position player clean sweeps are very good too because that works a number of muscles if done right.

The one most overrated in my opinion is the bench press.

But the key to football lifting is to work on all you muscles alternating days between upper and lower body giving your muscle time to heal

If you do squats the wrong way they could hurt you. The technique is a no brainer, but what you do after the squats is most important. I know plenty of guys that wouldn't stretch properly or run regularly and they ended up becoming muscle bound (to an extent) and they lost a lot of speed.

squating is an excellent core lift to built strong leg muscles... it would really make a difference if you play lineman or linbacker but dont forget to work your arms and chest too... work your abs too to maintain a healthy back and prevent injury.

You should refer to your coach or strength coach. Squats are great but too many could be detrimental.
