Vista, otherwise known as Windows Vista, is the newest operating system from Microsoft, like Windows XP, 98, 95, ME, NT, etc.

All the people that have answered your question so far have very powerful Laptops. Vista is great in those laptops but in a low end (1200 dollars or less) laptop I would reconsider. I know of magazines, and many computer threads that do not get revenue form Microsoft that will still not recommend Vista, at least just not yet. If you are into Photography/video editing, Gaming (Creative has only questionable Beta drivers for their best sound card for Vista) then I would wait till some of the lazy hardware companies update their drivers for Vista. However, if you just want to surf the net and your new Laptop has the power then yes, Vista is fine.

I've never used it on a laptop, but it might be somewhat poor if the laptop does not have a decent video card (at least 128 mb of RAM), or have a slow processor ( 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 or higher or any Dual Core should be fine), and enough system RAM ( at least 1 gig would be recommended ).

I think its great.I prefer it to XP Home.Looks better and easier to use too I think.
I have Vista Home Premium.Im a believer in keeping up and updating my laptop rather than stay using old operating systems.Get it,,u wont go back to XP.
