Is this a big Problem in the world?

From what I've seen on the news lately, it is very disturbing. Seniors being robbed, scammed and taken advantage of by low life thugs and people with no conscience. Also, the way seniors are treated in nursing homes is very disheartening.

The people aging now are much more aware than say the ones in the 80's now. The rules for homes and assisted living are taking a turn for the better and hopefully this will no longer be an issue. I live in a sr housing place and see more abuse from one spouse to the other than I ever saw as a caregiver.

Yes mostly by their children, or other relatives.

Blackmail is not uncommon, "give me money or I will never speak to you again, you will never see your grandchildren again".

Dr. Northrop (sp?) does a good presentation on PBS on how we women are easily taken advantage of financially by our children.

My children do not understand "I have no money to give you". I am seriously broke and looking at living on the street yet both my children owe me money.

I tried living with my daughter but she expected me to be their housekeeper, maid, laundress, contribute financially by paying rent AND buying groceries, and be her personal secretary.

As well as try to keep up with a less than part time job I have, which pays me between $200 - $400 a month, still paying off the debt for my mothers funeral tho that was 3 years ago.

I had a room in the basement with all their stuff still in it and it came to a head one day with her screaming at me because I wear shoes in the house because of arthritis in my feet. They have hardwood floors, and it HURTS to walk on them inbare feet. I was cleaning the floors anyhow, not them, and the shoes for wearing in the house are clean.

She also told me if they have company I should stay in the basement because they arent my friends, and not of my age.

I refuse to live with that kind of abuse, not from my children, not from anyone. I prefer to take my chances lving on the street rather than be so hurt everyday. It is easier to be abused by strangers then by your own children, it doesnt hurt as much, it doesnt break your heart.

Yes it is a major problem*... They are abused mentally, physically, emotionally and financially every day in the U.S. and other countries*...Sad but true*.. They need a guardian angel to look out for them, of which I am one*....

Very big problem, but not publicized as much. Nursing homes, private homes and lots of other places. Very sad and should be delt with.
