As stated in Wikipedia: "Atlantis is the name of a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias." It's existence is mere myth. I'll admit that it's fun to believe in an advanced culture that sunk to the bottom of the ocean many years ago, but, unfortunately, there's not one shred of evidence that it actually existed.

The real lost city of Atlantis has been discovered and is currently being excavated. An Island in the Mediterranean. It is where the legendary (real historical legendary) "Sea People" lived. They were quite advanced, in that they had hot and cold running water. No electricity or flying machines though. Most of the island was destroyed by a volcano.

When it was written about, Plato was probably referring to the Minoans. Like many things, he was writing a story and things tend to get exaggerated. There is no doubt that technology has been lost in the past only to be rediscovered in the future (for instance, the art of making Iznik tiles lasted until about 1600 and we still can't figure out today how to make them but it will happen) so it seems logical that Atlantians had technology that would surprise us. Minoans were a peaceful, wealthy people without wars so they had alot of time on their hands to come up with things.

I love the idea that Atlantis may have existed. I love it more that there are scientists out there who are scratching their heads because they cannot find it! What a beautiful mystery!

yes, I believe there was a lost city. I don't think it's just standing under the water, though. I thinkn it's really a pile of mud now, if anything
