I don't think you are too far off the mark. Although I am a person with liberal views, I am extremely wary of partisanship that overflows from both sides of the aisle. I would be especially wary of those who have changed their views about the subject as public opinion turns.
I don't think that any politician, regardless of what some conservatives would have you believe, want to leave our troops without the support they need to continue to do their jobs. Unfortunately, the only way that the Dems are able to make the changes to current policy on Iraq, the platform that won them the midterm elections, is to threaten to cutoff the budget for the war efforts. All other efforts to set a deadline for withdrawal or encourage a timetable for a troop pullout have been met with stiff resistance.
In direct response to your question, Democrats have their eye on the prize next year. They are going to do and say what they believe it will take to win the elections.

I am a Democrat and yes I do worry about the troops and I think they need to come home now. I see a lot more Republicans bashing Democrats then the other way around. And I see that having a Republican in the white house the last 7 years have did loads of good.
And a comment to Vancouerite....We don't have democrats to thank for all the lost troops...We have George Bush and "weapons of mass destruction" to thank for it. After 9/11 it seemed that people were coming together, Caring about this country and each other and now.....People are turning against each other and forgetting who the real enemies are. It is a sad fact!

Bush's lame adventure is an enormous waste of people and property no matter how you look at it. The US shouldn't be trespassing anywhere. Bush fabricated a whole pack of lies to attack a weak country for their OIL and it all went sour. The people there didn't like it, and are fighting back. In the process Bush is making thousands of enemies. Every person he blows up has family and they all justifiably hate him and the US now.
He should be as intent on making friends, and the primary way to start would be to stay out of other peoples business and lands and stop stealing their OIL.
Yankee GO HOME, and stay there..

All they care about is winning in '08. They want Bush and all Republicans to look bad and will jump on anything that will help them win. They could care less what happens as long as they win in '08. The sad part is both parties are useless. Peace

Our politicians could care less about our soldiers in Iraq. They will only do what is politically correct.

It's not about the soldiers for Democrats.
It's about:
1) Politics and grandstanding;
2) a mentality that asserts "peace at ANY cost," which is FAR more dangerous than any war would be.

They want the war as an issue in the next election. They will go to whatever ends are necessary to accomplish that.
