When this team was put together in 1998, did you have any hope that they might actually be a half way decent team? I know they've only been around for a short time, but this is rather pathetic. I'm from a different part of the counrty, so I'm not some depressed fan writing about my frustration with the team, but how can they consider themselves a legitimate major league team? In helping the Yankees keep pace with the Red Sox this weekend by predictably getting humiliated except for that beyond surprising 14-4 win, this is 1 of the most ridiculous organizations in sports I have ever seen. What do Devil Ray fans really think of their major league, I mean amateur team and is there any hope whatsoever of putting a decent competitive type team on the field some day? By the way, even the logo, uniform and stadium s****.

I completely agree with you. The Devil Rays definetely won't be seeing the playoffs anytime soon, especially since the Yankees and Red Sox are in their division, and they are yet to record a season above .500. However, they do have lots of young talent. Their hitting can actually be pretty good in the future, but their pitching is terrible. Their relief pitching is arguably the worst in the league aside from the White Sox. I live in Florida and I had no idea who any of their relief pitchers were except for Al Reyes.

well i am a yanks fan but they have great talent but they trade it away because lets face it florida is not a baseball state they could give a sh** about it and the fans that are down there are mostly red sox and yankees and other major teams fans , the rays use the excuse that no 1 comes to the games so they cant get money to buy players and put out a winning team this is a correct statement but who would want to go to the rays games when the stadium is a dump(even thought recently they have made it nicer and it still sux) and they are cheap and losing is a way of theres

They have some fine talent, actually. BJ Upton, Delmon Young, Carl Crawford, Ty Wigginton, Brendon Harris, Al Reyes, Aki Iwamura, Carlos Pena-plus the beginnings of a good rotation; Kaz, Sheilds, Sonny, Jackson(maybe)-they ran into an absolute meat-grinder in the red-hot Yankees, I think the Yankees would have kicked anyones asses this weekend. If they can keep the aforementioned guys together, and add at least one decent starter and one solid bullpen guy, the young Rays will be an improved, even solid, team(and PLEASE-trade Baldelli for an arm-the guy will never stay off the DL-get something for him while you can!). Unless ownership/management totally screws up and sells off this good core of young players, I look for a much improved performance by the Rays next season.

The Rays have a good core group of young players and they look like they are at a point where they could get better. It is really all up to management from this point going forward to be willing to spend some money for that pitcher or two that would allow them to be competitive. A new downtown Tampa stadium would also help to bring out the casual fan and put some energy in the ballpark.

If there are their some pretty hardcore fans.....the Yanks scored 21 runs on them today. The problem is all in the division.....not in 50 years will they ever be better than both the Red Sox and the Yankees. If they get moved to the National league next year it will be too soon

soon enough, the devil rays will have a decent team. if you look at their offense, you will see that their offense besides the catcher is set. they have players like carl crawford, bj upton, delmon young, and carlos pena. they also have a couple of decent starting pitchers such as james shields (even though he got knocked around today), scott kazmir, andy sonnanstine (who should have a better record but gets absolutly no runs support) and an up and coming pitcher edwin jackson. Edwin Jackson has horrible stats so dont even look them up, but has a fastball that can hit 100 and a pretty good moving slider, but has control problems, but has looked good in his last few starts. the main problem is our bullpen. we have 8 people currently in our bullpen, and only 2 of them being reliable, al reyes and gary glover. our minor league system is stacked in single A and double A. we are hopefully signing david price soon and we have a ton of pitching prospects. In the future, look out for pitchers such as mitch talbot, dale thayer, jeff ridgeway, wade davis, and jacob mcgee. they will be huge major league threats.

im a huge devilrays fan, they need some good pitching and the also need a bullpen that doesnt give up 11 runs in like 2 innings. they need to be in a division where they arent competing with the red soxs and the yankees. they need to be somewhere in the national league. their stadium is nice to me. you can get some great seats anywhere.

Do Devil Ray fans even exist?

MLB really messed up by putting a team there, and especially in the same division as the Red Sox & yankmes.

yes, they are pathetic, and i'm happy the giants didnt move there in 92, because we in san francisco would have received devil rays.
