You should get a Toshiba laptop because they make the best laptops. If you're comparing a Toshiba laptop to a Compaq laptop, the obvious answer is that the Toshiba is better because Compaq is not made with high quality products, and Toshibas are made with the highest quality possible these days.

If you want a cheap laptop, check out the companies that specialize in cheap laptops like ASUS or Acer.
ASUS has the best support in the industry, 2 years, free shipping, zero stuck pixel policy, 24/7 support.
Acer makes nice machines for very low prices. Readily available at most major electronics stores if you want to check one out.
Stay away from Dell. Their cheap stuff is crap.
