i am looking to go to rome in november and was just wondering were would be the best place to stay to see the main historical sites, or go on tour buses ect.

Anyplace within a 1/4 mile radius of the main train station, as you can catch the metro to go all over the city. The tour buses leave from there, too. There is an information kiosk and a hotel office. I never make hotel reservations without checking with the train station hotel office; they always have the best deals in out-of-the-way hotels, and they can tell you about the area around the hotel and it's proximity to the station and attractions.
