HDMI is better than USB for video, as it produces a higher quality output. USB is designed for multiple purposes, however, while HDMI is ONLY for video. Thus, in most regards, such a comparison is useless.

hdmi is a video output / input standard, not a method of transferring data to a pc.

perhaps you meant Firewire vs. USB2, in which case USB is faster for smaller transfers or transfers on burst, while Firewire is best for longer backups and larger video files
