Probably because society celebrates the "young and perfect".
Age is not an enemy. Contrats on your 40th. I reached it four years ago and I am having the time of my life!

Happy Birthday to you.Hope your day is as great as you feel .Hope you leave to see another 40 score years. You know what they say at age 40 life has just began. So babe live on. To me you're as young as you feel and at age 40 that's not old . Some people put a limit on they life. They look at it as 50 is half a century which may seem old,so they figure if 40 is that close to 50 it probably makes them feel old. But again it's all about how you feel.Enjoy life ,I feel it's worth living.

I didn't feel "old" when I turned 40, I gave myself the ultimate birthday present, I had a hysterectomy at 40. I don't feel "old" at 53, I can't say that I've really changed in who I am since my mid 20s, I'm pretty much still that same person other than being the mother of an adult myself now.

Happy Birthday! I agree with you : 40 is just a number. I just saw in Gap displaying Audrey Hepburn outfit - "ageless" comes to mind. I think 40 is equivalent to 20 in the 1910 due to scientific advancement that enable us to live healthier and longer. Really, do you notice older women are getting prettier and prettier these days? To keep looking young, it's very important to take care of our own body and stay positive thinking at all times. We have to follow a strict regimen of exercises and healthy eating. I like the red Chanel lipstick and pink YSL lipstick, cheer me up all the time.

Happy Birthday. I am 41 and I guess it's society that makes us feel that way. Not to mention a soon to be ex husband who was always checking out the younger women. You're only as old as you feel sister and I feel so much younger now that I got rid of the old baggage hangin around my neck...lol

I don't feel old, I was unhappy in my 20's and 30's (was married) , but I love being in my 40's (not married). That middle-aged sexual peak is awesome!

that's their problem. its great that you not only embrace your age, but are also an example that 40 can be the beginning not the end. be and example to all those around you how great it is to be your age. believe it or not your friends and family will see you and unconsciously want that enthusiasm for life as well.
