first off i haven't been in school for 11 years but here goes....

ok lets write it out

first is: 2+5(1-5)
so we get 2+5-25
which would give us a final answer of negative 18

not sure how you got 27 but what you need to do is multiply the 5 by the numbers in parenthesis first. so 5*1 then 5*-5

ok second one is 6(2)-1+5(-6-5)
once again do multiplications first which gives us 12-1-30+25
final answer of 6

Your answers are not right, but I don't know how you got the wrong answers. To get the right answers, you have to follow the order of operations. PEMDAS.

Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication and
Division
Addition and
Subtraction

Multiplication and Division have the same level of priority as each other and Addition and Subtraction have the same level of priority as each other. You have to work out problems like this in PEMDAS order.
1) Parentheses
2) Exponents
3) Multiplication and Division
4) Addition and Subtraction

When you have two things at the same level of priority, you work in order from left to right.

worked out ANSWERS BELOW, so don't read them if you don't want to

_____________________________________________
1) x + y(z - y)

2 + 5(1 - 5)
2 + 5(-4) parentheses first
2 + (-20) multiplication next
-18 addition last

2) a(x) - z + y(-a - y)
6(2) - 1 +5(-6 - 5)
6(2) - 1 + 5(-11) Parentheses
12 - 1 - 55 Multiplication
11 - 55

i don't have self assurance the two is sweet. What you're able to do is write out the equation with the parenthetical parts spelled out, like x-3y-6x, etc. that would supply you the main suitable answer once you combine all the variables.
