You have to use the chain rule so in this case it would be

-2*sin^(2 * pi *t)

Find the derivative of cos²(πt).

Use the chain rule.

d[cos²(πt)]/dt = 2 [cos(πt)] [-sin(πt)] π

d[cos²(πt)]/dt = -2π [cos(πt)] [sin(πt)]
