Specifically Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. They all obviously have substance abuse issues of one sort or another. Does the constant scrutiny of the media hinder their recovery efforts?

Well they want the spotlight.
If they didn't want paparazzi anyway why go partying till 5 am or wear no underwear or drink and do drugs.
Like they love the attention and crave the media and seeing their pic in mags. But anyway I have something to say about Paris. Shes says shes going to change but a video surfaced about her saying some very racist and homophobic slurs. And Lohan came out of rehab but went to Vegas. Hmm and Spears went swimming in her underwear with some friend.
Why most celebs run to rehab..Its like a trend of some sort.
But back to your question I think helps in some way in that if the fall of the tracks the media will be there to get it in a pic.

Your celebrity examples lack style & grace. You can't feel bad for the monsters they became.
It doesn't seem that any of them possess any sincerity & respect for themselves or anyone else for that matter. With the world at their fingers, they have made a mess of so many great possibilities.
