No. A protein extracted from deep inside a fossilised T-rex bone has been found to be similar to a protein found in chickens. This shows that dinosaurs were more closely related to birds than they were to reptiles. Dinosaurs diverged from reptiles and birds diverged from dinosaurs. The T-rex protein shows that some of the changes found in modern birds had occurred first in dinosaurs, even those not directly related to birds but the changes occurred after the divergence from reptiles.

Although the chicken is related, it is not the closest living relative to the T-Rex. All birds are descendants of the 'bird-hipped' dinosaurs that first came about in the Mesozoic dinosaur era. These dinosaurs were much more agile and walked on two legs. The shape of the pelvis and hips meant their legs were underneath them, instead of to the side, meaning they became quicker and more agile. It also meant that running took up less energy, and hunting was more accurate, because only the legs were required to move, not the whole body, meaning it was easier to keep their eyes on the prey. To see what I mean, compare the 'lizard-hipped' crocodile's movement when sprinting on land to an ostrich's movement whilst running. Hope this helps!

well, yes in a way, but it would be better if we say that water birds like storks are the closest living to a t-rex.........this is really strange becoz peple think that reptiles like crocs and lizards must be closer, but presto, a fact is a fact and that is birds are more closely related to dinosaurs than reptiles are....this is because a separate evolutionary link evolved from the dinosaurs........u must be knowing that there wre dinos with feathers, whose fossils have been found in the orient of late..

well considering the chicken is not a reptile, and the T-Rex was not an avarian dinosaur, I would say no, that sounds like Urban Legend...the closest living relative would probably be the alligator/crocodile who actually have prehistoric roots...
