I just recieved my grade for my speaking and listening talk for english (goes towards my GCSEs). I also have a stutter (not to serious) so i'm really shocked. I just thought I would share this with the world :D.
I have never got an A* before and english is my only strongest subject so yea, i'm extremely happy!. Although, I wish I could get an A* in every subject :(
Also, my "so called friend" told me at the start of the year I could never get an A* so I can't wait to tell her!!
Sorry everyone for wasting your time reading this question, but I just felt like expressing my feelings :D

Well Worked, I really do think I deserved it! I based it on a really sensitive topic which was on the religion of Islam and how it's portrayed to the media. My teacher might of been a bit generous on the grade, but to be honest, I feel like ive achieved more than expected. Plus it is NOT impossible to get an A* on speaking and listening. So yea I'm proud of it!
Atleast I got the grade and to top it all off, it will contribute to my overall grade. So I don't really care! =) I'm more than happy!

Is it really such a great feeling?
You're teacher must give a self assessed gradefor "speaking and listening" for GCSE English taken in Year 11 (aged 15/16). This mark is then sent to the Exam board.
I think your case shows how some teachers may interpret evidence positively to put forward the best grade they can for their students and give them the best chance.
I myself only got an A for Speaking and Listening - given to me by my teacher, but the highest grade (A*) for the actual GCSE English written examination as a whole - marked by external examiners and not the teacher. It looked a bit odd for me, but in the end I felt that 'A' was fair and objective for me, because it reflected the effort I'd put in to the debates and discussion and my level of articulacy (potential or otherwise). In the light of some of the comments you make here I've got to question the marking of your teacher. No student deserves an A* for speaking and listening - unless you're really really genius and articulate.
This is just a classic example of the weakening of the grading system by teachers' subjective self assessments and their subjective marking of papers - at comprehensive schools in particular.
Clearly, its not the GCSE exams that are getting "easier", its most probably the marking by teachers and examiners (who are themselves teachers). This might make sense given the academic pressure on teachers to show improvement in their own classes and also to advance career wise.
But this case also shows that those who aren't outstanding in other subjects, can still do very well in GCSE English - including those "rough youths" the bourgeouis likes to mock.

***WELL DONE!!***
It's great that your stutter didn't effect your speaking grade!
I hope that when you tell your 'so called friend' your great news that the smile will be wiped off their face!! You proved them wrong!! =)
I'm dreading my results...they come out on the 7th August =S ...Somehow i think there will be a lack of sleep the night before!!
You're quite right to express your feelings too, you must be so proud of your achievement.
Good luck with the rest of your results, I hope you do really well and get the grades you wanted. I wish you every success purecuteness786. Keep up the great work.
Well done again!!! =D

Great! It shows that those who stutter can do it! Good work. If it were me, I wouldn't say anything to your "friend" - just stay quiet about your grades. Our son always delighted in listening to others complain about teachers grading systems, about their poor grades, and about what they could do to get their grade up so they didn't fail. He never said anything but just worked extra hard to learn how teachers tested and to ace their tests. He ended up surprising everyone when he got to stand up on the platform and give a speech at graduation! His total GPA was a 4.0! He's working on the same thing now that he is in college. Never talks about grades but sure can make them.

And as for your so called friend saying you won't ever get an A*,
Go rub it in, ask what she got and say ' Well I got an A* '
