Being as I work on cars for a living I believe that the best thing to do is to replace the enire a/c compressor as a whole. Just replacing the clutch is an exact science of a job even though it is cheaper, You are going to need special pullers for the clutch assembly and ur going to need to know the "air gap" when u go to reassemble it. Trust me, a new compressor is ur best bet considering it all new as a unit.

Smartest, easiest way to have it fixed is to drop it off at a reputable repair shop and let them fix it. Usually, just replacing the whole compressor is the way to go. No, it is not the cheapest way, but the shop has the tools and talent to recharge the system properly. As long as they do a good job the first time, this is the best way to go. With a compressor from a junkyard, you are never sure what you are getting into.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get a used compressor from a junkyard. First, you dont know what you have and if it goes out, its gone, no warranty. The best thing for you to do is to get a whole new compressor with a warranty. It may hit you hard now, but you will save in the long run.

unless you have the equipment to recover and recharge your ac replacing the whole ac compresser isn't going to be any easyer.
Take it to a shop and have the clutch replaced. They are not as hard to change as these other guys would have you think, but they do require special tools as well.
