im wondering how do they work... does the cop not detect your speed until you pass right by him.. or can he tell how fast a car is going in like a half mile radius... because my detector doesnt go off until about 100 yards away, and i do slow down... but im wondering if the cop already knew i was speeding..

The radar unit will send out a pulse and then it will wait for the echo to come back. That pulse will go out and bounce off of your car and then back to the radar unit. The amount of time it takes to come back will determine how far you are away. The next pulse will again tell how far you are away. The difference in time between the two pulses, let the cop know how fast you are going. And yes they can get you several 100 yards away. So if your detector goes off, then hit the brakes before he gets a reading on you. good luck.

There is a pulse sent out to the car and back when it crosses a piont and when it reachs the car, the longer it takes to come back, the faster the car is going; thus giving a calculation of your speed.

Best approach to not getting caught speeding is simple.
Go more slowly.
