About a third less than on Long Island. Property taxes say in Fresh Meadows, Queens would be about $2,500 while on Long Island it would be $8,000. As from an home owner's insurance expect about a $100 a month.

I know in California it's 1.25% (annual) based on the sales price. For example a $250,000 home the annual taxes would be $3,125. You can look on the internet for the county assessor's office (for each county you are interested in). Somewhere on the website under information it should give you the tax percentage based on sales price.

Any average would be utterly meaningless to you. You have to nail down the specific property that you are interested in or at least check on similar listings in the area you wish to buy first.
