You will get back quicker each time as you know how to handle it the more experienced that you become at it. You also know how far you can go if you've been there once before.
But the big secret is not to set yourself targets like most people do as targets only limit your potential to go much further.
Try to see your own potential as being limitless and you will go further than ever before.
There is actually no such thing as going too far as you can't. You have set yourself limits here and you see the end as having gone too far. You haven't even begun to go too far.
Tell yourself this - there is no such a thing as going too far. Going too far is just an illusion my friend. It doesn't matter what it is you think you've gone too far with you haven't as there is a lot more out there be it money, men/girls, success, health, whatever it is you will never be able to go too far.
I see going back as a rest period before I go even further forward again.
But sometimes when you have nothing and are not moving anywhere then you can find that you actually become content with your lot and at your most happiest ever as our society dictates the illusion to us that we need to strive for things that we don't really need.
Persoanlly speaking I love having money, cars, houses, holidays, good health, lots of girls, and to feel successful so I do not set myself any limits and I have lived a fantastic life as a result of this and I wouldn't change a thing.
Not sure what your actual issue is but whatever it is you need to stop limiting yourself, think large not small.

That depends. If it's like, a bad thing, then yes. But if you go too far in something like, I don't know....determination? Then you end up with something good :)

No , If you learn by your mistakes then you go forward, theres a statement once said that if a person does not learn from their mistakes then they are doomed to repeat them, maybe that was a nation... lol you always gain if you learn!

Depends on what you went too far with - - different outcomes for different circumstances.
Choose wisely.
