Television is the friend who is not always invited, yet makes himself quite at home on your couch at odd hours. Television is the standard bearer of barely bearable low standards. It's the window to the soul of the cheap and lazy; the shades of dark silence. At once television is the all-humming, all-talking, night-glow addiction of the earth and the refuge of the lonely, the weary, the shy, and the unmotivated.

It is the common ground where the young and old meet to discuss the middle-aged. Television is the black box of our earthly flight, recording our every position, direction, and distress call. Television is the answer to everything but questions nothing. Television is the quintessential Buddhist, ever reincarnating.

Television is the ultimately cool medium, always speaking; never communicating, always prognosticating; never predicting, always screaming "Look at me!"; then turning away aloof. It plays us for the fools only it understands we are, and brings us back for more. But at least it always has ice cream.
