how do I know if my well pump is burned out

Have you checked the elecrical breaker to see if it is tripped? Also remove the box cover (carefully) to see if possibly, ants have gotten between the contacts and are stopping current from going to the pump. You need to know if the pump is getting power.

Check the water level on the water tank your well pump pumps water into. A well pump doesn't send water directly from the well to your faucet. It fills up a water tank and your faucet water comes from that tank.
