I've taken my computer into my ISP guy to get my computer "cleaned" after I've gotten some unwanted spyware/viruses. I couldn't get any of my Norton/McAfee/Spybot, etc to fix it for me, so I had to take it in. Is this an easy process I can do myself or is it best to be performed by a professional. From what I can tell, you simply remove everything and then reload all of the back-up software and other software that comes with your computer. Is there someone tha tcan give me detailed instruction son how to do this? It costs me about $50 every time I do this or 5 gallons of gas. :) Thanks in advance.

First you need one active Virus/spyware software. If you run more than that it can interfere with each other. You need to have a current subscription to your Virus/Spyware provider of choice. Then make sure it updates the signatures frequently. This will help Keep Viruses AND Spyware Off Your System.

Second occasionally run House Call which is a free online Spyware, Virus protection service. If any viruses or spyware get onto your computer should detect it and clean your system.

You didn't mention if he also backed up your own Personal Data. This would be the deciding factor for me. If he is only charging you $50 to back up your personal data and restore your system, it's well worth it.

If he is only re-loading your system to factory default and he doesn't bother to back up your data and you lose all of your information, you can do this yourself.

If your computer came with system recovery disks, then all you need to do is make sure your Bios is set to have the cdrom as the 1st boot device in the Boot Sequence settings. You put disk #1 in of the recovery disks into the cdrom and restart your computer and follow the onscreen instructions.

If your system did not come with any system restore disks, then your system restore image is located on the D: partition of your hard drive. This is accessed on the black boot screen. When the computer is booting up and it's on the black screen, some where on that screen there is a setup option, usually F10. Your black screen might say something similar to "Press F10 for setup" in white text on the black screen. This is what you would press to recover your computer back to factory defaults.

If your worried about entering the bios by pressing the Delete Key or F2 key on boot, and finding the boot sequence settings.... Have this guy who fixes your system, show you where it's at.

Hopefully some of this has helped you.

NO they at the instant are not extra beneficial! Norton is the worst and McAffee is a diverse 2nd. i could desire to pass on and on yet take it from a tech that has replied hundreds of tech help calls. AVG makes a great unfastened AV software and advert-conscious is a staggering secret agent ware scanner. good to comprehend you're questioning approximately those issues, yet on the possibility of sounding irresponsible, i do no longer use ANY AV or secret agent ware software. They sluggish your laptop down till configured to no longer be working and scanning for all time. I stay removed from the "seamy" fringe of the internet, odd-ball porn web content, cracker web content, something unlawful or quasi-criminal. this is the place ninety 9% of those threats come from. merely be attentive to what you click on, fairly pop-up classified ads and so on. and don't open any email attachments till you're specific they're from a chum. additionally ditch information superhighway Explorer. get carry of Firefox and installation it. i've got been utilising it for 2 years and by no skill get secret agent ware/viruses. All that rubbish is concentrated to IE consumers.
