If you want to stay under $150, try a Hoover Fusion, it's got really good suction and with a Bernese Mountain dog and a toddler, it gets plenty of use. Had a couple of Bissel's and they both broke really quickly. The best vacuum though is without a doubt a Dyson but I wouldn't pay $500 for it.

I have a Dyson and I love it. When we got the Dyson I vacuumed right after using my hoover and I could not believe how much dog hair, dust etc the hoover had left behind. I had gone through a new vacuum every couple of years too. The Dyson is never supposed to lose suction.

The Oreck Commercial. I've had it for 8 years and it's great. I vacuum everything almost daily. It's 8 or 9 lbs. I vacuum all carpeted areas, baths and kitchen. It's a go everywhere vacuum. It was $169.00 at my local Oreck store.
I just bought a Eureka "The Boss" from Sears last week. It was $19.99. This is the best little vac I've ever seen. There are a couple dozen great reviews for it on Target.com. They're all true!

We went through a lot of vacuums trying not to spend too much...but they would not last a year and a half; so we bought a Dyson, and yes, we paid $500; but it works great and really does the job. Can't say if it will last 6 years or more; but I feel pretty confident it will. Sometimes you have to spend a bit more if you want something to last.

I vacuum every day really I do. I have a dog and three teenagers. I have found that a Bissel from Walmart works the best for me.And on top of that it's CHEAP under $50.00.

The absolute best vacuum cleaner is a Miele but they're very expensive. A cheaper (but still expensive) alternative is an Electrolux. All these other names... Dyson, Hoover, etc are all crap. Dyson was rated poorly for its suction, so don't be thinking that just because it's pretty expensive that that makes it good.

Oreck! You can make payments like 33$ a month no interest. I love it! Works on any surface. They give you lots of extras too. Bags, canister vac, and a professional iron. I've had mine for 5 years. Never one problem. Easy to maintain. Go to oreck.com and read about it. Good Luck!

Before you shell out major cash on getting a new vacuum, why not try having your old one serviced and overall clean and check.. It might just need a new belt, filter or bag.. It's sometimes cheaper than buying a new one... Goodl uck
