Well, regardless of how it make look to others, it was probably the right thing to do, since poetry comes from inside and if you don't like it, you probably really don't like them. I understand how you feel and I think that it would really cause issues if the other knew you didn't like their art and stayed together, I loved a writer ( he did it as a hobby, not a profession) and I thought his stories were not very good, but I couldn't tell him, but I also couldn't be supportive in the way that was important for him.

Well, their poetry probably says a lot about that person and if you don't like it then you probably won't like who that person is. I'm trying to give you a good excuse. lol

That's such a shallow reason to break up with someone. But then again some people are shallow and break up for any little thing nowadays.

It is a very valid reason to leave them. Poets and songwriters always want you to listen to their garbage and if you don't tell them it's great they get all bent out of shape. If you tell them you love it they make you listen to more. It is a no win situation. Leave the first chance you get.

Pretty goofy reason. Not a real good excuse. Doesn't sound like you or whoever wanted to be with this person anyway.

very, actually
everyone has their flaws
plus, some people just flat out suck at writing poetry... it has nothing to do with how they are inside
