That is why they are frantic to end the war, The US has got Al Qaeda on the run in the provinces, Al Qaeda has a mutiny on its hands in the Doura District in Baghdad and US forces got the Shiite and Sunnis to cooperate in security. 26 tribes signed the agreement. Can we have some kind of guideline and time-line so we can judge if there is success with the surge or is it an open end operation so some kind of success can be claimed at any time? It's hard to define success when the guide-lines are constantly changing. If you really think about the whole Iraq debacle, success in varying amounts has been claimed for the past four years. Mission accomplished, insurgency in its last throes, we're turning the corner and the best one, major combat operations in Iraq have ended. When will republicans realize no matter how long we stay, Iraq is not becoming a democracy.

Not a lot unfortunately, they will just tell another lie. The surge is succeeding now, if you follow Bill Roggio or the blogs by the troops that are there, the US is kicking major al-qaeda bootie.

This could be why there is so much in the media here about it failing, they are preparing to lay the big lie on us.

Nothing would happen. If the current surge is a success that is great but it is still only a stop gap measure unless you are saying we need to keep 150,000 or more troops in Iraq indefinitely. General after general has been saying that there is not a full military solution to Iraq. A 'solution' would be part military, part social, part economic, and part political. The problem is we have seen no advancement of the Iraq governments part and our patience is running thin. I have not seen a Dem plan that called for a total and immediate withdrawal of troops. They all are calling for a gradual withdrawal, giving the Iraq government the time, and the time table, for taking control. It has been almost 5 years, plenty of time if the Iraq government was serious.

If the surge is successful, and Iraq can stand on its own, the troops come home.

So, the Democrats get exactly what the people want if the surge is successful.

And if it's not, the troops will still come home as soon as we have someone in power who is willing the be rational.

They will never admit that it was a success and will try to continue with their plan. I don't think anything will stop them from trying to get in control and by any means possible.

Then it becomes moot, doesn't it?

Now here is your question: Has the surge over the past 4 -5 years been a success?

Does the surge include a search for those WMD's we went to Iraq to get?

I keep forgeting the latest spin. But I do like to go to yahoo finance and plot the surge in Haliburton stock over the past 5 years. Nice. Bush is a genious at getting $$$ for his buddies.
