Try downloading Google's picture editor. It might have a black and white converter.

I assume that when you say "Black & White", you probably are referring to grayscale. True black and white conversions aren't very pretty unless you have a program that dithers.
Google's Picasa will do it and it's easier to use, download and install than Gimp.
You'll need to save the file as a B&W image though because Picasa doesn't overwrite original files unless forced to do so.
