U cant like set it on your lap and keep it out of water for a long period of time..besides they r dirty and drag that around your house
..but get it outside I do with mine..be sure to watch them as if it were a 2 year old child they r quick!! and predators like the neighborhood cat can attack..My RES loves to be free outside!!

Well they prefer to be in the water hence the name slider-they will go in right away when they are frightened. You need a large tank (ten gallons per inch of shell), water heater, filter, dock, 5% UVB bulb, heat bulb, and two light fixtures. As long as you provide the proper habitat they should be content in the tank.

If you take them out and they run away an hide they are stressed and should be put back. Only if they are large and comfortable can you let them hide in a slipper or walk around on the floor-it isn't necessary. You can put in a bubble wand/stone in the tank for them to play with as well.

Good luck.

Red-ear Sliders, like other pond turtles, do not enjoy playing outside of the water or playing with other species- especially not giant creatures that pick them up and scare them.

If you wish a small pet that LIKES to play, try a pet rat!

Sure, you could play fetch...teach it to roll over...have it go get you a beer from the fridge.

You should not own a pet you don't know how to handle. Be a responsible pet owner and do the research BEFORE you obtain a pet.

Turtles don't play- in fact, they would rather not interact with humans at all.
They either see you as a predator, or a source of food, or both.

Sure! Hold it in your hand or let it outside and let it have some fun! Be very careful though. You don't want anything to happen to it!
