No fish eats poo, and most fish will eat another fish if they can fit it in their mouths. Catfish will eat uneaten food off the bottom of the tank, and some varieties will eat algae. If you keep catfish, get some sinking catfish food and feed it according to directions. Usually a small pellet or part of an algae wafer will do per fish. A bottom feeder can starve in a healthy tank if no food is reaching it. Reference your fish book for more information.

What Do Catfish Eat

Most catfish are peaceful fish that will not go out of their way to eat fry (baby fish). They are bottom feeders, so are mostly vegetarian, but they are also scavengers and opportunistic feeders, so they will eat most anything that falls to the bottom of the tank. This includes chomping on any dead fish that may lie around down there too long, and if there's a fish small enough to fit in their mouth that can't run away fast enough, they will eat it if they are hungry.

They are great for cleaning up excess fish food that drifts down to the bottom of the tank, but NO FISH will eat another fish's poop! That is a false belief held by some people because they see the fish so busily searching through the gravel and eating almost everything else it finds. There is no fish in the world that will keep you from having to clean up a little poop now and again. Plants on the other hand, love that stuff as a fertilizer. :)

Aquarium catfish are not real catfish. Real cats have smooth skin, instead of scales. Their mouths are located near the front of their snouts, facing forward, and have rows of small teeth for crushing their food. Corys, placostomuses, and other aquarium catfish may have mouths that are round shaped, further back on the underside of their snouts, suitable for laying flat on tank sides and scraping algae from the glass or rocks. Many fish that have barbles, or whiskers, are called catfish, even though they're not really related.
Real catfish fall into two catagories, scavengers and predators. Channel cats are scavengers, eating almost anything they come across. All other true catfish are predators, eating live food almost exclusively. Catfish baits are most commonly made with chicken blood or pureed fish, especially shad because they are so oily. The catfish is supposed to think that the bait is alive. I've not caught many cats on prepared baits. I've caught thousands on minnows, bluegill, sunfish, crayfish, worms, and insects. So yes, I do think a real catfish would eat your baby fish.

There are many different types of Catfish. Small Cory Cats will eat excess food on the bottom of the tank, but no living animal eats its own poop. There is no nutrition in poop, so eating it would do nothing. Other Catfish like Channel Catfish will eat anything they can fit in their mouth, including other fish.

Catfish are bottom feeders, whch is why all the catfish sold for consumption are farm-rised. They eat garbage, but they won't attack your fish.

No they won't eat the other fish's waste. They will however eat leftover food on the bottom of the tank. I feed my corydoras Shrimp pellets. They will not eat fry either.
