Every area has a community theater...call the number and find out when is the next audition. Community theaters love when new people come in...it's absolutely free, and you gain an enormous amount of experience (and fun!).

You don't mention your age, but if you're still in school, get involved with the drama club. Take as many acting classes as you can. Audition for community theatre productions. You'll discover two things very quickly: 1) whether or not you have the chops, and 2) whether or not you like the work.
Becoming a great actress takes talent, energy, ego strength, and a huge amount of commitment. You may go for years working more than one job to keep body and soul together. But if acting is what you love, there is absolutely nothing you won't do to make it happen.
I spent twenty-five years as a working actor. I never got famous, but I had the privilege of doing work that I loved for two and half decades. I did dinner theatre, regional theatre, industrial films, summer stock, etc.
Get involved, in school and in your community. Agents are always looking for new talent. Local agents will see your shows, and if you're what they're looking for, they'll find you.
Every show you do adds to your experience, knowledge, and resume. Go for it, and never give up!

most of your answers have a little good sense to them, especially about getting experience. To become an actor you not only have to act, but you have to work hard to sell yourself to casting directors and agents. It is tedious and discouraging work for the most part. I suggest you go to Acting Career Start UP on the web and read everything thoroughly. Tony's book may be helpful, but sometimes it looks like he is just selling a book instead of being an actor.
Write to me and tell me where you live and how old you are. I mentor young actors for free. Ask me all the questions you have about acting at kencosp@aol.com

Trying out for roles in school plays to test your talent and versatility. If you're pretty good and still interested, become a theatre major in college. Then see what type of theatre you want to focus in on. My nephew did exactly that and now he's taking classes at the Olympics Improv in Chicago to get better.

Try out for as many shows as you can. Even if you don't have anything really on your resume, auditioning is the first step. Also, I don't know what specific kind of theater you want to go into, but you might want to try acting lessons/classes, voice lessons, dance lessons, etc.
