Wash them again, and check you washing machine isnt suffering from limescale..do you wash your drawer in the washing machine (the bit you pull out to put powder/fabric conditioner in) if not all you do is pull it out gently, and wash that in warm soapy water.
You may have to wash the clothes in a hot wash as possible..do you have a tumble dryer?
Use it!
If all else fails buy febreeze, which is a spray, you can get all sorts, for upholstery, you (obviously!!) need the one for clothes. Its very nice smell!!
Or if the clothes aren't your favourite, I am afraid to say CHUCK them out!!
You should be able to get rid of the damp smell by washing them again to be honest..I to have done that!!
Do you use good washing powder? I advise the tablets you can get that come with a little drawstring bag, either Persil or Tesco own make! Also VANISH is Excellent. Pour some in too.
Good LUck!!
P.s
DO NOT use bleach on coloured clothes, I know Americans do this alot, but they have different products than the UK.

Re-wash them. Add 1 full cup of plain white vinegar in with the soap. This will take care of the smell. I have 2 jobs and a 2 year-old and sometimes forget to put clothes in the dryer and this gets the smell out.

Get some powdered Oxy sparkling and upload one or 2 tablespoons on your well-known wash water with detergent - in different words, rewash and use those products. Then in the present day dry your issues interior the dryer. the main trick is to by no skill pass away your products interior the washer for extremely a selection hours before drying, and additionally you will no longer have the venture lower back. till your clothing tend to get alot of physique scent on them for all time. nonetheless, i take advantage of OxyClean in practically each and every load of wash and have no odors, till I ignore and pass away them interior the washer in one day.

I can suggest this. Run your washing machine on the highest setting , add 1 cup of bleach . Do the same again and add 1 cup of vinegar . This will give the pipes and the machine a good clean

I think it could actually be a blockage in your washing machine cos the smell shouldnt be left in new clothes. I would check your filter and see if it has blocked. Good luck

Start filling the washer with water, put a small amount like a half a cup of bleach into water let it fill and agetate a little then add your clothes. A small amount of bleach shouldn't hurt your colors then use lots of softner in the rinse cycle. Hope this helps. The bleach will kill the mildew smell.

Run the washer on hot with a good dose of bleach (you can do it empty or do pillowcases and socks or something else white you don't really care too much about.) When you take your clothes out of the washer, leave it open so that it dries out inside. That should fix it.
