The microwaves are coming from a single source, the "tube". Paddles just outside the oven chamber rotate to distribute the microwaves around, but they never hit the food from all angles evenly. Rotating the food on a platter helps to even out the radiation. Like in a conventional oven, the heating effect begins at or near the surface, and gradually gets transferred to the inside. The microwaves only penetrate the food to a certain distance, depending on the food's density.

Microwaves heat food by warming the water inside the food. It's not like a conventional oven where the heat is all around it so it has to be rotated to make sure it cooks evenly.

It has a hard time heating food on the inside because most of the "microwaves" are absorbed before they get there.

It doesn't have to. My parents have an school one that has no turntable. You have to stop it every 30-45 seconds on turn the food 1/4 turn to get it to heat evenly.

Microwaves heat from the outside in. That's why the middle can still be cold/uncooked. So cook for a little longer or stir your food when you take it out to distribute the heat.

It doesn't. Really. That's just a lie that people place on microwaveable food packages. They are merely hoping that you get close to the microwave so more radiation gets inside your body, and you become one of... .'them'!
