I'd like to hear some reasoning that works against the theory that 12/12/12 is the end of the world. Or in other words, why won't the world end in 2012?

I know what is predicted for 2012, so don't tell me about it. I want to know the other side of the story - why people think it won't happen.

Let me start with a few proven facts. In 2012 the sun will be ending a regular 11 year cycle. It will also be the end of a 26,000 cycle called the procession of the equinoxes. The culmination of these two events, among other celestial cycles that are to complete in 2012, is why the planets are heating up, why the weather is getting freaky, and why everyone is acting strange. Keep in mind that out bodies are controlled by electrical impulses that can be affected by outside stimuli. If the sun gets crazy, so do we.
Scientists are predicting a very active sunspot cycle. One that will put the one in 2001 to shame. In that one, communication satellites were damaged and there were problems with power grids around the world. They are suspecting that the gamma rays will be significant enough to potentially destroy some satellites and some ground equipment. Worse, they are certain of a big CME (Coronal Mass Ejection). Their only hope is that we are not facing that side of the sun when it happens.
Now, if the scientists are right about 2012 as they were leading up to 2001 regarding their estimates of solar activity, this could render satellite communications useless. This means a nearly total communications blackout. The impact would be devestating economically and socially. In essence, a technological roll back of nearly 50 years.
Does this mean the end of the world? Not exactly. Just the end of the industrialized world as we know it.
This is a scientifically proven scenario based on what scientists know WILL happen to the sun in 2012. Any other answer is without merit unless you disregard these facts. Of course, to do so is to be in denial about the inevitable.

Why WON'T the world end in 2012?
The burden of proof lies with the ones making the claim.

This is not going to happen because if it was it would have already. There is an error in the Roman calendar. This ws realized around 0 A.D. (or 4-6 B.C.) This error puts the world four to six years behind, meaning that the world would have ended last year.

Heavens to mergatroid! (I've always wanted to say that, whatever it means). The Mayans had to stop their calendar somewhere. Look at the calendar on your wall. It goes to the end of January, 2008, most likely. Does that mean the creator of the calendar thought the world would end then? Oh, and "cycles"..they are cycles because they recur!

Well no one can say it won't. But then no one can say it won't tomorrow. And its not really a theory since it can't be tested.
2012 is the end of a "great cycle" in the Mayan calendar. Too many people have read too deeply into this and have interpreted it be the end of the world. In reality, its the Mayan estimate to the end of a 26,000 year precession cycle for the Earth.

Why would it? Unless the Man Upstairs decides he's had enough of mankind's foolishness. But isn't it interesting how close that year, predicted hundreds of years ago as the end of the celestial cycle by the Mayans, is to the "make-or-break" year for stopping or at least significantly slowing global warming?
