The best thing I have found is called "The Works" and you can get it at most $ stores. My mother in law owns a duplex and when a slob of a guy and his son moved out the shower was BLACK. NASTY!! The Works made it look like brand new.

Wet it down sprinkle Comet in it scrub it down with a wet brush let set for a little while on tough spots like rust. Rinse with hot water repeat if necessary. Hope this helps. It's the only thing I've found that makes the tub sparkling clean and white.

A lot of it depends on if it is a ceramic or porcelein tub. They are also made of fiberglass and those will need to be prefessionally restored to regain the shine. If they aren't too bad, maybe you could try automotive car wax to restore a shine. Look in the phone book for bathtub restorations.
The other ones can be cleaned with a product like Bon
Ami to get them clean. good luck.

Use baking soda paste, and make sure to get the tub a little wet before so you have good coverage. Sprung baking soda on it after wetting it down and let sit a few minutes, like while you clean the sink and toilet. Then start scrubbing, it is one of the old time cleaners.

The Works is fantastic. Spray it on, let sit for 30 min. then rinse off.
I also LOVE Clorox scrubbing bubbles with bleach, you have to scrub after applying and the bleach will ruin clothes , but it works great!

The Works for shower and tubs. You get it from walmart or dollar general. I use that all the time for my tub. they also have one for the toilets as well. Both works good.
You can also fill your tub with hot water and bleach let it soak overnight.

The bleach is the best way but if you have black stuff that won't come off, it might be mold, Tilex is real good for taking that out. (be careful it has bleach in it and will stain your clothes)
