"worser" - that's not a word. Actually jails are quite 'worse' than many prisons. Primarily because jails house all levels of inmates: murders, etc. There are several 'minimum security' prisons with better conditions.

Prison is where they send you for a LONG time.
Jail is mostly a temporary stay.

Prison is for any term that is over a year. So you end up with the worse criminals in Prison. Jails are for terms less than a year.

Prison, because you're in there longer and it's grosser.
I've never been, but that's just what I've heard.
