My sister is looking to get a repariable car. But she doesn't want to get one with the air bags gone because she doesn't know how much it costs to have them put in again. So does anyone know the average cost to put a driver side air bag back in>?

Thanks!

. CarFax has an interesting story @ http://www.carfax.com/car_buying/airbag_safety.cfm ; They can cost over $1,000 to replace. Personally, I use a seatbelt ALL the time and don't care about an airbag.
And here's a quote from the bottom link: "... Federal safety rules do not allow air bags to be reused. So each bag would have had to be replaced with a brand new one. The sensors and pyrotechnics that set them off also required replacement. Add the cost of labor, more than $1,000 for each air bag, and even more for the sensors .." etc. .

Depending on the vehicle, the airbag itself will run about $140-400 used, I have had luck finding good deals on eBay for the airbag. If your interested in purchasing vehicle parts or salvage vehicles you can try the link I have provided below. I have purchased several vehicles from that location plus have visited the location twice. They also have a huge salvage vehicle lot and will ship parts via UPS anywhere.

Also any body shop can install the airbag back into your vehicle form $100-200 dollars. Sometimes you have to purchase additional sensors that need to be replace when the airbags are deployed and the system has to be rest by the dealer or the body shop if they have the correct equipment for your vehicle.

Dave Ramsey (daveramsey.com) says that the very best used car is the ugly one! It will have lower miles, have been taken care of and will last for a long time until you are smart enough to save up for a better used car. Dave says never buy new until you have cash and nothing else to spend it on!

Driver's airbags are simple to change, but if one deploys, the module and clockspring are probably bad too.Look here for prices: http://car-part.com
